Featured Artists July

Featured for the Month of July "Table Talk"

For July, Gallery 9 features the work of two local artists, acrylic painter Mena Quilici and fine woodworker Robin McKann. The collaborative show is titled “Table Talk”.

Mena Quilici presents a dozen new paintings in her signature rich hues. Each includes a table, and each invites the viewer to complete an unfinished story. A bed and red night table, with an open book and eye glasses awaits their absent reader; a purple table overlooking the water with empty coffee mugs seems recently abandoned; and an easel table with a painting in progress waits for the artist’s return. Bright, bold and whimsical, this delightful new series just needs the viewer to add their stories and assemble the pieces.

Robin McKann's furniture and sculpture blends the inherent beauty of the wood itself with curved carvings and inlays. With a master's attention in the details his pieces are functional works of art that are destined to become tomorrow's antiques. His new work expands his vision of a greener world where our relationship with wood begins with a stewardship for the trees.

Meet the artists during the Port Townsend Gallery Walk on Saturday July 4th from 5:30 – 8 PM at Gallery 9, 1012 Water Street in Port Townsend. 360.379.8881

Featured Artist for June

Todd Stephens - Stoneware Pottery

Todd Stephens’ passion is creating distinctive art pieces for the home and teaching clay art classes at local public schools.

The ceramics Todd creates, often have surface decorations of mountains, leaves, and salmon which reflect his love for the natural environment. Classical art designs, he viewed while visiting Italy and Greece also influence the forms and decoration of Todd’s work.

Stoneware clays, along with the potter’s wheel and hand-building are used to produce the forms. Surface designs and colors are achieved by using in-house glazes (made in small batches from raw materials), by carving into the clay, and with post-firing treatments (for example, horse hair reduction).

Featured Artists for April

April 4th is Gallery Walk and Gallery 9 will be proudly featuring the works of painter Larry Eifert and Potter Diana Cronin. Please join us at 5:30 pm on Saturday April 4th for Gallery Walk - 1012 Water Front St. Port Townsend WA -- 360.379.8881

Port Townsend painter Larry Eifert is showing new images of the Olympic Peninsula in Gallery Nine for the month of April.

Acrylic landscapes of Olympic National Park, Sol Duc River, Big Quil River and even his own driveway are in the show along with new classic wooden boat paintings of Larry and Nancy Eifert's 1939 sloop Sea Witch. The work from Olympic NP came about while researching other work Eifert has been doing for the park. Eifert recently finished 24 paintings for Sol Duc Valley interpretive wayside exhibits, creating a sort of “gallery beside the river” there. The Gallery Nine paintings represent the close knowledge he’s gained from working with the Park’s skilled resource people.

A professional artist for over 40 years with a national following, Eifert has more work in America’s National Parks than any other painter. The Nature Conservancy, many state parks and refuges use his natural history art for interpretive and educational displays and publications. Look for the Eifert’s paintings on the cover of the new Olympic National Park summer newspaper, park map and new Elwha River publications for 2009. He also writes for 48 North magazine, the Seattle Times and Sasquatch Books among many others. The artist will be in Gallery Nine during the evening of Port Townsend’s April Gallery Walk.

Diana Cronin has recently been working on pieces with a mountain and ocean theme. Having grown up in Miami near the ocean and then the Rocky Mountains in Montana, Diana finally settled in the Port Townsend area where she could have high peaks and beautiful coastlines to explore. One piece in the show titled " My Magical City Nestled Between the Mountains and the Ocean" has mountains circumnavigating in front and back with a simplified city tucked in behind a swirl of waves. The show also includes small hand built bowls that were formed over beach rocks to give them their organic shapes. Each piece is decorated with brightly colored food safe glazes in bold new patterns with a bit of whimsy.

Thank you Gallery 9 Members
